As they never try to promote their industries in the sections where free schools abound, they might be forced to go outsiile the United States to tind territory if a free school system covered the whole coun try. •k * * The southern states have al ways had tlieir colleges and pri vate schools, many of them ecpjal to the best anywhere, but there has been no free school system. The fact is, people in Transyl vania, county have never psiid any tax—don't know what taxa tion is. In Pennsy\ania, one of the richest states in the I^'nion. the school tax alone is greater than all the tax levid her<?—15 mills on the dollar. Taxation is the best investment any com mu nity ever made and should be the most willingly paid.
